Pella Falls in Heartbreaker

The Dutch season came to an end in a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Knoxville. Both teams battled and the lead changed hands several times throughout the game, but in the end Knoxville had the last at-bat and was able to walk-off with the win in the 1st round of the district playoffs. Early on, it was Tyler Hillman vs. Knoxville as Hillman hit 2 massive home runs in the first 4 innings to knot the game at 2-2. Knoxville was able to score 4 runs in the 4th inning to take a 6-2 lead, but the Dutch immediately responded with 3 runs of their own in the 5th. The score remained 6-5 into the 7th when Avery Van Zee hit a clutch 2-out, 2-run single to give the Dutch a 7-6 lead. Knoxville was able to scratch together 2 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, however, and advance to face Oskaloosa in the district final. Pella finishes the season at 22-16 and earned a 3rd place finish in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Dutch say goodbye to 3 seniors....Tyler Hillman, Caleb Piersma, and Joel Ruiter all played their final game in the green and white. Hillman will be playing baseball at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, Piersma will play at University of Northwestern in St. Paul, MN, and Ruiter will be attending the University of Iowa.
