Welcome

Welcome to Mrs. Struth's 5th Grade Class!

August 18, 2017

Dear Students and Parents,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the last days of summer vacation and anxiously anticipating the return to school. This year you will be joining me and 21 other students in Room 406. I have been in the classroom throughout the last few weeks and am putting the finishing touches in preparation for our first day of school on Monday, August 28th. A school-wide meet and greet has been scheduled for Friday, August 25th with grades 2-5 classrooms being open between 9:00am-10:00am. Please feel free to stop by and say hello (and drop off any supplies you may have)!

In order to help you prepare for school, I am asking that the following supplies are available for the first day of school:

1 HEAVY DUTY 1-inch binder

1 HEAVY DUTY 1½-inch binder

1 package of loose-leaf binder paper

2 packages of 5 tab binder dividers

3 single-subject notebooks (3 hole-punched)

Pencils

Yellow Highlighters

Zippered pencil pouch which fits into 3-ringed binder

2 pack of sticky notes (be creative in shape, color, size, etc. if you would like)

1 set of ear buds/headphones (to be stored in the classroom)

I have all other supplies for the classroom, please do not purchase anything else as our storage space in lockers and on our tables is limited.

The following supplies, though not required, would always be welcomed throughout the year:

Puffs tissues

Bounty paper towels

Ear buds/headphones

Water bottles are permitted in the classroom, so long as the contents of the bottle is only CLEAR water (no additives).

If you do not already have a Twitter account, please consider setting one up. You can follow our classroom @StruthsTruths for an exclusive look into the goings-on of each day!

Also, students need to complete the following homework assignment for the first day of school:

Cut out pictures from magazines, books, newspapers, or photographs of things that would describe you. You will need enough pictures to fill an 8.5x11.5 piece of paper. DO NOT GLUE THESE PICTURES ONTO PAPER! Place these pictures in a Zip-Lock bag with your name on it. These items will be used for a project, will be laminated, and will be returned only at the end of the year.

Students will also need a favorite picture of themselves, along with a family picture. These items will be used for a project, will be laminated, and will be returned only at the end of the year.

Finally, parents need to complete the following homework assignment for the first day of school:

Write me a letter describing your student identifying his/her strengths and challenges, along with your hopes and dreams for this school year. Place this letter in a sealed envelope and send to my attention the first day of school. This letter is for my viewing only, and will not be shared with the other students in the classroom.

I am very excited to meet each and every one of you! If you have any further questions, concerns, or would like to say hello, please feel free to drop me an email at kstruth@pelhamsd.org. I will see you outside at the buses on Monday morning!

                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                Mrs. Kerry Struth
