Welcome to Mrs. Struth's 5th Grade Class!

June 12, 2019

Dear Students and Parents,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying the last days of fourth grade and anxiously anticipating the days ahead in fifth grade. Next year you will be joining me and 23 other students in Room 406. I will be in the classroom throughout the summer and will putting the finishing touches in preparation for our first day of school on Tuesday, August 27th. A school-wide meet and greet has been scheduled for Monday, August 26th with grades 2-5 classrooms being open between 9:00am-10:00am. Please feel free to stop by and say hello (and drop off any supplies you may have)!

In order to help you prepare for school, I am asking that the following supplies are available for the first day of school:

2 HEAVY DUTY 1-inch binders

1 package of loose-leaf binder paper

2 packages of 5 tab binder dividers

1 three-subject notebook

Yellow Highlighters

Zippered pencil pouch which fits into 3-ringed binder

2 packs of sticky notes (be creative in shape, color, size, etc.)

1 set of earbuds/headphones (to be stored in the classroom)

1 package of 10 thank-you notes (check the dollar stores!)

I have all other supplies for the classroom, please do not purchase anything else as our storage space in lockers and on our tables is limited.

The following supplies, though not required, would always be welcomed throughout the year:

Puffs tissues

Bounty paper towels

Extra earbuds/headphones

Water bottles are permitted in the classroom, so long as the contents of the bottle is only CLEAR water (no additives).

Also, students need to complete the following three (3) homework assignments for the first day of school:

1.) Cut out pictures from magazines, books, newspapers, or photographs of things that would describe you. You will need enough pictures to fill an 8.5x11.5 piece of paper. DO NOT GLUE THESE PICTURES ONTO PAPER! Place these pictures in a Zip-Lock bag with your name on it. These items will be used for a project, will be laminated, and will be returned only at the end of the year.

2.) Students should bring in a family picture.  A 4x6 is appropriate. This item will be used for a project, will be laminated, and will be returned only at the end of the year.

3.) Throughout the summer, students should add to our classroom Summer Scrapbook (located in our Goggle Classroom). Each student should add a minimum of one page (but may add as many additional pages as they wish). Be sure to check back throughout the summer to see what everyone, including me, has been up to!

Finally, parents need to complete the following homework assignment prior to the first day of school:

Please email me (kstruth@pelhamsd.org) a note describing your student - identifying his/her strengths and challenges, along with your hopes and dreams for this school year. This note is for my viewing only, and will not be shared with the other students.

I am very excited to meet each and every one of you! If you have any further questions, concerns, or would like to say hello, please feel free to drop me an email at kstruth@pelhamsd.org (My away message will be on, but I will be checking and responding to email throughout my summer). I am looking forward to seeing you all for the beginning of a new school year.
