Research Compliance


Research Integrity staff are available to provide training upon request. Additionally, the following describes online training modules available for the different areas of Research Integrity:
  
 
Human Subjects Research Training (IRB)
 
Faculty, staff and students conducting human subjects research must complete human subjects research training available via the CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. IRB applications will not be processed without certification of human subjects research training (NOTE: all personnel listed on the application must submit documentation of training). 

1. Access the site at www.citiprogram.org
2. Click on New Users Register Here
3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
4. Create username and password.
5. On the 'Select Curriculum' questionnaire form (Question #2), select the correct Human Subject Research course based on your research activities.
        -Group 1: All PSU researchers or research personnel engaged/performing human subjects research                         (most people will select this option).
        -Group 2: Institutional Review Board (IRB) Committee Members
        -Group 3: IRB administrators and/or PSU research administrators. 
6. Training is valid for three years. As an alternative, PSU will accept the NIH Human Subjects Protections Training


Animal Subjects Research Training (IACUC)

Faculty, staff and students conducting animal research are recommended to complete the IACUC research training available via the CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. Instructions on how to access the IACUC training modules: 

1. Access the site at www.citiprogram.org
2. Click on New Users Register Here
3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
4. Create username and password.
5. Choose courses/modules that reflect your specific work in animal research: 
  • The recommended course includes: Working with the IACUC
  • Some of the following options may be applicable to your research: Reducing Pain and Distress in Laboratory Mice and Rats, Working with Amphibians / Gerbils / Guinea Pigs / Hamsters / Mice / Rats / Rabbits in Research Settings, and/or Aseptic surgery modules.
Training materials are also available through the AALAS training modules.



Financial Conflict of Interest Training (FCOI):

FCOI training can be done either via NIH Financial Conflict of Interest Training or through the CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. To complete the training on CITI please follow these instructions:
 
1. Access the site at www.citiprogram.org
2. Click on New Users Register Here
3. Select PSU from the Participating Institutions drop down menu
4. Create username and password and pick the COI learner group
5. After you are registered, pick the COI learner group.
 


Responsible Conduct of Research Training (RCR):
 
RCR training is available via CITI Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. This training has been certified by PSU to meet the NSF training requirements for postgraduates, graduates and undergraduates engaged in NSF funded research activities.  Principal Investigators are responsible for maintaining these training records for all individuals requiring this training to remain in compliance with NSF funding requirements. Some NIH grants have additional face to face training requirements; please review the NIH RCR policy for further information.

4. Create username and password and pick the RCR learner group
5. After you are registered, pick the RCR learner group.

Sponsored Projects

We offer occasional training in proposal development and submission for both new and seasoned researchers at PSU. In addition, monthly Department Research Administrator (DRA) meetings cover current issues and concerns for researchers at Portland State.
