Portland State University has established the Chemical Hygiene & Laboratory Safety Committee to ensure that the use of chemicals will not adversely affect the health, safety, and well-being of students, staff, visitors, neighbors and the environment.
The Chemical Hygiene & Laboratory Safety Committee reviews the technical, environmental, and safety aspects of all research proposals involving the use of hazardous chemicals in order to support safe laboratory environments at Portland State.
The Committee, along with the office of Environmental Health & Safety, provides expert advise on issues related to the implementation of the Chemical Hygiene Plan, and other agency rules and guidelines, with the goal of having a chemical and environmental safety program that encourages best laboratory practices and satisfies federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
