Welcome to the Portland State University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi.
…
Founded in 1897, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline honor society. The organization’s mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." Since Phi Kappa Phi’s origin, more than 1 million members have been initiated including distinguished individuals such as former President Jimmy Carter, writer John Grisham, and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Portland State University received its charter from the Society on February 15, 1980 and a chapter at its campus was formally installed. Students may not apply, but will be invited to join the Society by the Chapter President if they meet the standards of eligibility. At PSU, juniors and seniors in the top 7.5 percent of their class and graduate students who rank in the top 5 percent of their class are evaluated for membership. An initiation ceremony is held each spring for students who are invited to join Phi Kappa Phi. Members of the Society receive a printed certificate, pin, and a medallion that may be worn at Commencement.
The major purpose of Phi Kappa Phi is to recognize academic excellence. Members of Phi Kappa Phi are also eligible for an array of scholarships and other benefits. Extensive additional information about Phi Kappa Phi is available from the national organization’s website.
