Brent Summers

Brent Summers graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2010 with his BS in Environmental Management and Protection.  He focused on Environmental Policy and Management and received a minor in City and Regional Planning as well.  His interest include forest policy, forest management, and how public engagement and contributions affect forest policy and management.

His MEM project, The Effectiveness of Forest Collaborative Groups at Reducing the Likelihood of  Project Appeals and Objections in Eastern Oregon, focused on Forest Collaborative Groups in central and eastern Oregon engaging with US Forest Service timber sale and fuel treatment projects.  The study area for the project are the Deschutes, Fremont-Winema, Malheur, Ochoco, Umatilla, and Wallowa-Whitman National Forests and the ten Forest Collaboartive Groups that have interest in those national forests.  He examined National Environmental Policy Act document appeal and objection data to determine if collaborative group involvement in the NEPA scoping process reduces the likelihood of a project appeal or objection.  A video recording of Brent's public Masters defense presentation is available here.
