In support of her dissertation research, Microsoft has awarded PhD student Brooke Cassell $20,000 in cloud computing through their Azure for Research program. Brooke will use these resources to run batches of simulations in the dynamic landscape model LANDIS-II (over 700 single runs!) in order to understand the relationships between forest dynamics, climate change, wildfire and management in the Southern Blue Mountains of Oregon. Brooke is the 2nd student in the lab to receive this incredible funding opportunity along with Charles Maxwell.
