GUNN AP Chemistry Summer Homework
Dear Incoming Gunn AP Chemistry Students,
Welcome to AP Chemistry!
First order of business is the Summer Chemistry Review.
During the first week of class you will have formative quiz covering the following information to help us get a baseline for what you know:
You will need to write names from formulas and formulas from names. (ionic, covalent including binary and tertiary compounds, acids, and basic organic)
You will need to predict products for the 5 main types of reactions (Synthesis, Decomposition, Single Replacement, Double Replacement, Combustion)
You will need to be able to write balanced equations from the formula names or from your predictions
You will need to be comfortable with significant figures and using rules to provide numerical answers with the proper precision.
You will need to be able to use the balanced equation to do stoichiometry problems using dimensional analysis (including molarity and gases, applying the whole mole road map).
You will need to understand how to determine what the limiting reactant is and use stoichiometry/dimensional analysis to determine how much of a limiting or excess reactant is left at the end of a reaction.
Your summer homework is to use whatever resources you have access to (your first-year notes and worksheets) and/or the review materials provided on this website to prepare for these assessments. This website was designed to allow you to assess your skills and improve so click around and see what is helpful.
If you have any questions regarding the class please email me: ezizmor@pausd.org
Have a great summer!
