Japanese 1(G)

What a great decision you have made to take Japanese 1!
Whatever your goals and expectations are for this class, you all individually possess what it takes to be successful students.

Course Description
Japanese 1 is a year-long, elective course.  By the end of the course, successful students will be able to engage in simple conversation about themselves (self introduction), family, likes/dislikes, food, school activities, etc.  The focus of this course is the acquisition of basic communication skills.  We will develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills by learning the essentials of pronunciation, basic vocabulary, and functional grammar.  Mastering the hiragana and katakana writing system is mandatory upon successful course completion.

Try to speak Japanese as much as possible in class.  Don't be afraid to make mistakes.  In fact, I want you to make lots of mistakes because we all learn the language through TRIAL and ERROR.  In this class, we work together as a team, just like a big family, so relax and try Japanese!  This will be a fun experience and it will contribute to your ability to understand and speak more Japanese in a limited classroom time. Refer to the handout "Useful Classroom Expressions" and speak Japanese in class.  If you lost the handout, you can download below.
