Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. I am proud to be part of the Georgia Brown community since 2014.  I received my Bachelor of Arts and my teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton.  I began my teaching career teaching kindergarten, in Hesperia, CA in 2005.  I began teaching in an immersion setting in Colorado in 2010.  I have two special little girls, Kayly who is going into 2nd grade and Zaila who is 3 years old. Together we love to read, sing, dance, and play at the local parks.

Our daily schedule will always consist of stories, songs, alphabet activities, writing, art, English, reading and math.  Our schedule allows for weekly VAPA teachers to come and teach our students in the visual and performing arts including art, dance, music and P.E.  Please send your child with comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes so they may participate in these activities.  I hope that this year will inspire and encourage your child to spark a love for learning in an environment where they enjoy being a part of and feels secure.

This will be a very exciting year for your kindergartener.  Your child will begin to acquire a second language through a comprehensive, integrated curriculum.  We will start right away with writing and learning the alphabet letters and sounds.  They will be learning foundational math concepts such as shapes, classifying, quantities, numbers, and addition and subtraction.  We will be making scientific connections with the natural world through thematic learning.  Along with the core academics will will make weekly visits to the library and garden and have opportunities to use iPads in the classroom.  You should see some wonderful changes in your child as they progress through this year in kindergarten.

We will have a morning recess/snack break from 8:55-915.  A snack is not provided at this time; however breakfast items may be purchased in the cafeteria or a healthy snack from home may be eaten at this time.  Please label all of your child's belongings: food, clothes, backpack, etc. We are going to encourage all student to take a rest break at some point in our day.  Please send your child with a small hand towel or a blanket the size of a small hand towel to rest their head on.  Our kindergarten classes are thankful to have a full day para-educator with us. Our para is Srta. Palomino.

I am looking forward to an unforgettable year, and getting to know your child and family.

Sincerely,

Sra. Meurer
