P4. Imagines alternatives and generates solutions for problems.
Research Paper Requiring extensive research on the part of students to (1) ID a location in the world where an environmental problem is evident... (2) Do a thorough demographic, geographic investigation of the region and how these hinder or help in the environmental concern of interest, and (3) Provide detail possible and feasible solution to the problem in question. Students provide, graphs, illustrations, simulations, models and animations to demonstrate the use, function, reasonableness of the solution AND how it should mitigate the environmental issue(s) in question.
P8. Identifies, describes and evaluates evidence from diverse sources by detecting bias and distinguishing reliable information sources.
Students engage in discussion orgininating from controversial documentaries involving sustainibility, environmental issues to cultivate knowledge that is objective and scientifically supported. Open discussion permits students to ask important questions that help them to weed out bias, prejudice and emotional leanings that are sometimes not supported by science or objective, thorough investigation.
P9. Acts and reflects on global issues.
Final research project investigates global environmental issues and formulates possible solutions.
Sustainibility is a global issue, but students make an immediate, local impact by actively encouraging and engagin in acts of sustainbility, green practice by helping promote and execute the recylcing of paper goods in the school. (...work in progress).
