Physical Education

My name is Andy Schroeder and I am the Subject Area Coordinator of the Physical Education and Health programs at Parish Episcopal School.   I believe that physical education and health is a powerful academic instrument.   It has the ability not only to build and develop lifelong skills but also help strengthen student' social skills, self-esteem, confidence, and behavioral conduct.    I am excited that the Parish Episcopal School community has embraced physical education as an essential academic subject area and our department is committed to the overall development of the intellectual, physical, social, and moral lives of the students here at Parish.  We welcome the opportunity to assist each student in the development of the attitudes, skills and knowledge associated with health, fitness and sport.   Our goal is for each student to understand and embrace the benefits of a lifetime of participation in physical activity and fitness.

The objective of the Parish Episcopal Physical Education program is to provide the knowledge and tools to help students make healthy decisions and to encourage students to strive towards lifelong fitness.   A fitness-based warm-up, including flexibility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance begins each lesson at every grade level.   Developmentally appropriate skill-building games and activities make up the core of each class.   The importance of sportsmanship, fair play and cooperation is consistently reinforced at all levels.  The expectations of each student are to wear the appropriate Physical Education uniform, exhibit respectful behavior, and give his or her best effort.
