November 20, 2018

Dear Falcon Band Members and Family,

CONGRATULATIONS to the Forest Hill HS MARCHING FALCON BAND FOR Placing in the TOP 5 - 1A Bands in the State of Florida, becoming State Finalist. Performing in the Dome is a dream for all bands in Florida. 21 Bands competed in the State Semi Finals, and as you know, Placing in the Top 5 is an amazing accomplishment. How many bands finish in Dead Last (21st Place… we had a very young band) one year, then go on to becoming a finalist the following year?

Thank You for all of your hard work, dedication and sacrifices and for an amazing season of successes. (See Below*)

Special thanks goes out to all of the Marching Band Techswho volunteer and dedicate their personal time to be with the Falcon Band to make the band the best they can be. Ally(Seminole Ridge HS Grad), Esther(Forest Hill – DSOA Guard Grad), Judith (FHHS Band Captain and Grad), Mario(FHHS Drum Major and Grad). Our Directors… Danny Perez(Santaluces Tuba/Guard Grad) and Bryan(John I. Grad) and our newest staff member Mr. Ceron(FHHS Drum Major and Grad).

Without the following, none of this could be accomplished, our amazing Parent Volunteers and Boosters: Aida and Mike Romanyk, Vicky and Tyler Trahan, Vincenzo Tarantino, Karen Mosos, Tammy Gomersall, Christina and Robby Hamilton and of course Terri-Ann Reeves and Sybil Echevarria. If I missed anyone… thank you too. SPECIAL KUDOSto Mr Romankwho created allof our amazing props that helped us get to the State Finals.

I Have enjoyed every moment with all of you and I will remember and cherish these times forever!

Have a Great and Blessed Thanks Giving and we’ll see you soon.

Your Band Director,

Mr Reed

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Holiday. I cant believe that it has been an entire week since our return from State Competition.

Some thoughts:

The Forest Hill High School Falcon Band has truly shown to be a band of distinction. I spent last weekend watching how they (you) interacted with each other after the perceived failure placing lower than anyone anticipated. As a consolation, I couldn’t be more proud of the friendships and the mature way they (you) have responded to what could have been taken as disappointment. You (the band) have been extremely grateful to each other and have been extremely complimentary to every other band that competed against you. Remember, our ratings at MPAs this year were amazing. I am so impressed and couldn’t be any prouder.

I knew that this season would be a challenging one for the entire Falcon Band. Almost half of our marching band were new members this year. It was an honor to be there, side by side with the kids and staff working together on fundamentals, working out design and music changes with staff. After having to deal with all of the crazy weather issues like a hurricane and torrential rain and having lost so much rehearsal time, they (you) were still able to go and represent our school and band with pride. It is a bold representation to the strength and character of the Falcon Band program.

Our Band has shown how they respond in the face of apparent short comings. I am confident that our traditions, old and new ones, and our ongoing commitment to "Excellence" is something that will continue to live on within this Falcon Band for years to come. The Marching Band journey is coming to an end for the few Seniors in our band, but it has just begun for many, and I can’t wait to see how great the younger members become as musicians and individuals. If they, the underclassmen can become as passionate as our Seniors are this year, we have a lot to look forward to.

Now it is time to look forward, because although Marching Band has mostly come to an end, the year has just begun in so many other aspects. In the next month, we have the Lake Worth Parade, All District Band auditions, selection of Solo & Ensemble music, our Holiday Concert, Winter Guard and Jazz Band for those interested and so much more in the Spring.

Congratulations on a Great Marching Band Season!
