History Park in San Jose

Scout-O-Rama is the annual trade show of Scouting in Santa Clara County that is attended by over 6,000 people.

The show is historically held the Saturday before Mother's Day in May, starting at 10 am and concluding at 4 pm.  in History Park at Kelley Park (1650 Senter Road, San Jose).

Scouts and their families enjoy a fun-filled day of exhibits, competitions, skits, and displays. Some popular events from recent years include Dutch-oven cooking demonstrations, water rocket launches and bicycle shows. Local packs, troops, teams and crews can participate in the Scout-O-Rama event by displaying a booth, performing a skit or song or giving service hours.

Council page:

Scout-O-Rama tickets cost $10 and are good for the entire family.

Here is the Scout-O-Rama map for 2018:

High Level Objectives

  • Represent Pack 32 at this Council scout gathering
  • Check out other troops in the area for bridging
  • An opportunity for boys to see various scouting displays
  • An opportunity for boys to run the pack booth

Team Organization

  • Webelos 1 Den leader and co-leader can lead this or a parent, depending on Den choice

  • Around end-Feb/March, register with council
  • Event is in May

Major Tasks

  • Look at the Council site for most of the info:
  • Register for the booth a couple months prior, with
    • Description of booth
    • Requested site (can say "same as last year")
  • A month prior, go to in-person registration - it's about 1/1 hr on a Saturday - to sign in and pickup the tickets (usually 70, confirm with Committee Chair)
  • Create signin sheet to get people to sign up for booth shifts
  • Announce the event to the Pack
  • Remind people to show up for their shifts (also suggest for them to bring water)
  • Get Stuff from Pack 32 storage including
    • Pack banner
    • Tent
    • folding table
    • beanbag board & beanbags (make sure this is operational)
  • Determine prizes
    • 2016 bought 2 boxes of tootsie pops (300 each), which was just enough
    • Smart & Final is a good place to get these
  • Payment for the tix is done through billing (ie SVMBC will bill Pack 32)

2016 Reflection (on the May 7, 2016 Scout-O-Rama)
  • 2016 Info Flyer
  • No need to get there at 8am - too early.  It starts at 10am, so probably starting at 9am is good; the venue stops cars coming in at 9am though
  • Everyone wants the early shift; focus on filling the afternoon shifts
  • 1hr shifts too short, and created too many slots to fill; 1.5 hrs is better
  • What went well
    • We got a good location; good foot traffic and the booth had shade (see attached map)
    • Scouts had a lot of fun running the booth

  • Historical attendance for this event
    • dates
    • location
    • leaders names
    • #scouts
    • #adults
    • #siblings
    • #total
    • cost to attend (per person)
    • event cost/budget (to put on the event)
    • key memory (the place with the bees, the telescopes, etc)
