Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Service opportunity

posted Jan 31, 2017, 4:15 PM by Gail Price

Last year one Cub Scout family joined my family and team to jump into the cold waters outside Joe's Crabshack in Bellevue, KY as members of the Hamilton County Law Enforcement and Friends team!  For the past few years I have co-captained a team with a local Chief of Police and endeavored to raise funds for Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky Special Olympics and invite everyone to try this unique service event.

However, I understand not everyone is as enthusiastic about the prospect of jumping in with both feet so there are many ways to support Special Olympics should you decide not to jump into frigid waters on the morning of February 4th.  I hope you will consider joining/supporting us in this worthy cause raising money for children and adults with intellectual disabilities so that they can have the opportunity to experience the joy of sports training and competition.

You can make your donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message or you are invited to come out and support us in person next Saturday.

Any amount, great or small, would help the cause.  I would also welcome anyone who would like to join as an "Honorary Too Chicken to Plunge" member.

Follow This Link to visit my personal web page and help me in my efforts to support Special Olympics in Ohio and Kentucky and there are also tabs to join the team if you are brave enough to do so!

PINEWOOD DERBY 2017 THIS SATURDAY 1/21/17!!!

posted Jan 18, 2017, 4:59 PM by Gail Price

I hope everyone is looking forward the Cub Scout's Greatest Spectacle in Racing - the Pinewood Derby!  Special thanks to Jeff and Paula Chamot for coordinating the decorations and volunteer schedules for this Saturday.

Thanks to all who have signed up to volunteer for the event so far, however it looks like we could still use some help so if you are able to volunteer please sign up via the Sign Up Genius link below.

1)  As we have in past years, we will be awarding trophies / medals for the following categories so please keep this in mind as you finish up the design and construction of your cars which will be presented at the Blue and Gold Banquet in February.

2)  If you have a schedule conflict during the race times - please bring your son's pinewood car to the Primary school cafeteria early on Friday night while we set up or on Saturday morning in advance of their Den's race time. We can include your son's car in the Den race - although it is more fun to watch it live!

3)  We have distributed over 70 Pinewood kits this year but if you decided not to complete, please bring any unused kits back on Saturday.  Further, if a sibling is racing we would kindly ask for a $5.00 supplement to cover the expense of the kit.  However, finances should never be an issue for your son to take part in Cub Scout events, if this is ever a concern, please contact me individually and there are many camperships, scholarships, and of course the Popcorn fundraiser as a means to cover costs.

In particular, we are looking for someone to weigh-in cars first thing in the morning starting with the Webelos at 8 AM and could use a few more volunteers at the end to help clean up.

Also, if you can help by moving cars back and forth from the finish line to the start during your group's race that would be helpful and there is a sign up area for that too.

As we have in past years, we will be awarding trophies / medals for the following categories so please keep this in mind as you finish up the design and construction of your cars.
