Final exam: M Dec 11, 9am-Noon, Fowler 307. The exam will cover topics from Sections 1 to 10.
Here's my 2005 final; ignore problem 3a; for 3b, assume the input is a list, i.e., assume it says: raiseToPowers[{n1_, n2_, ..., nk_}]. On Monday 12/3 we'll have time to work on this 2005 final and on Sections 1 to 10; bring your questions!
Projects: due M 11/26/12. Your project grade will be based mainly (but not solely) on the following: level of difficulty of your project; thoroughness and clarity of documentation in your program; elegance and efficiency of your algorithm and code.
Project Presentations: due M 11/26/12. You will need to give a ~10-minute presentation on your project. The presentation will count as 5% of the project grade. In your presentation, you should demonstrate what your program does, and give a clear and brief outline of your algorithm.
HW 4, due M 10/15 10/22. Turn in a detailed progress report on your project: what have you done so far, what have you learned, and what is your plan from here on. Also turn in whatever portion of the program that you have written so far. I want to see enough that convinces me you've done at least six hours of work and effort. There is no way to quantify this exactly; it depends on your project and my "subjective perception". This assignment will count as 5% of your project score. Upload your work to this link (Oxy log in required); use only PDF and Mathematica files; name your file(s) like this: FirstName-LastName-Draft1.pdf and FirstName-LastName-Draft1.nb.
Midterm 1, M 10/8. Covers topics in Sections 1 to 5.
HW 3, due M 10/1. Read about For, While, and Do in Mathematica > Help.
Project description: due M 10/1. Put your name and project description here: Mathematica Projects - Fall 2012. Turning this in on time will count as 5% of your project score.
HW 2, due M 9/24. In Mathematica > Help, read about the new topics in Sec03 (lists, matrices, Map, Apply). If you haven't already, finish doing all problems in the exercises for Sec01,02,03. Solutions can be downloaded below. Pick a project you'd enjoy working on; deadline to submit project description: Friday 9/28. Here are some Sample Projects.
HW 1, due M 9/17. Read: Mathematica > Help > Virtual Book. Do all the problems in Sec02-exercises (download below).
