Community Groups

Oxford has a number of groups aimed at the diverse mix of people within our community. If you run a group not listed here, please contact, and we'll add you to our list. There is a calendar containing all the events we are aware of in Oxfordshire on the What's On page.

A social Group for young people who are 13 - 25, and identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender or who are questioning their sexuality. Friendly and welcoming people, bacon sarnies (and something for vegies too perhaps) chat, giggles, discussion and debate. Your place to talk about anything that's bothering you, get support about being Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender or get some help with answers to those questions that you've been wondering about for ages.

Red Box
An informal, relaxed night for women in Oxford from 8pm on the second Tuesday of each month.

First Sunday
An inclusive faith community for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, or questioning their sexuality (LGBTQ). We meet at St Columba's United Reformed Church in Oxford, on the first Sunday of the month (most months). You don't have to be LGBTQ or have a faith to come along.

Oxford Lesbian History Group
A small, friendly and informal group which welcomes new members. The group has an interest in all aspects of lesbian history and culture but members are not all experts or academic historians. Meetings usually take the form of a talk given by one of the members of the group but there are also sometimes discussions and social activities. They usually meet on the 2nd or 4th Tuesday of the month in a private location from 8pm. For further details please visit their facebook page (click name above)

Oxford LGBT Book Club
An Oxford-based book group for LGBT people, friends and the sympathetic! We do have a special interest in LGBT (and related) books, but we often read non-LGBT book too. Previous authors we've read include Oscar Wilde, Sarah Waters, Patricia Highsmith, Ursula K. Le Guin, Ian McEwan, Margaret Atwood, Quentin Crisp, Jan Morris, Jeanette Winterson, Rose Tremain and Haruki Murakami.

Meetings are usually held at the beginning of each month (on an Monday night) and all are welcome. If you would like to join the mailing list which will keep you up to date with all our meetings, and other social events, please email

Oxford Area Academic LGBT+ Staff Network

This includes post-docs, research fellows, academic, academic-related, and non-academic staff. Staff at other universities and research institutes etc. in the region are also welcome to join. Similarly, while the group is primarily intended for staff, post-graduate students are welcome to join the list and attend events if they wish, such as 1st Thursdays

Sugar and Spice
We are a lively and friendly social group of lesbian and bi-sexual women of all ages who meet with the intention of making new friends. We do not have formal committees or any subscriptions; we just aim to get together to enjoy ourselves.

Trans Oxford
Information and an online point of contact for transgender people in Oxford or Oxfordshire, UK. You may be MtF or FtM, TG, TS, CD or any other trans identity, but you can't find anyone nearby to talk to about it. That's where we aim to help, with this group and as much local information as we can put on our accompanying blog and web site.
