Directions: Students will write 20 individual compound or complex sentences detailing one particular event from the last two weeks of world history. Students will use at least one informative verb in the individual sentence to help explain the historical  concept. Students will need to highlight each informative verb or underline. Do not write the same information differently to try to get double credit. Make sure each student puts their name, date, and class period in the top right hand corner. On the firstline in the middle of the paper students will need to write the title and then underline the title. Students will turn in the paper when completed to teacher.

Welcome to Mr. Parker's U.S. History Class.

American History
August 13-17

Monday

-Students will read and assess a primary source.

-Students will identify the role that the Ku Klux Klan and the Redeemers played in voter intimidation during national elections from 1868 to 1876.

-Students will assess how/why the Compromise of 1877 led to the return of one-party Democratic Party rule in the South and the subsequent rise of the Redeemer State Governments.


Tuesday

-Students will read and discuss a primary source.

-Students will discuss the impact of the Lost Cause Myth in shaping southern race relations, politics, the economy, and culture during the post-Civil War South.


Wednesday

-Students will explain the rise of the New South Mill Economy including discussion of southern boosters, the plight of poor whites and blacks, the collapse of the southern economy following the Civil War, and northern in southern industries.

-Students will explain how Jim Crow laws circumvented the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments of the U.S. Constitution.


Thursday

Students will understand the cultural, economic and political impact of Jim Crow laws in the racially segregated South including lynching, Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), Jim Crow advocates and attempts by African Americans to resist segregation.

-Students will write their journal entry over the first unit (The New South).

-Students will take a quiz over the first unit (The New South)
