With GREAT sadness....OLC is closing their doors.
Dear Our Loving Children Supporter,
With bittersweet feelings of sadness and tremendous gratitude for our amazing supporters, the Our Loving Children Board has decided it is time to dissolve the organization and the OLC's sensory playground located at Southbridge Mall. The last 10 years have been a humbling and rewarding experience for all of us at Our Loving Children as we witnessed the incredible generosity of our families, friends and strangers. We set out to honor our beautiful and wonderfully special children as well as help raise awareness, understanding, acceptance, advocacy, support, and resources for our special families and community.
We believe  we’ve accomplished our goal!

During it’s existence, Our Loving Children funded more than 75 community events. OLC also supplied resources/items and assistance for 8 sensory classrooms, provided 7 technology devices, 13 weighted blankets, 2 handicap swings for Mason City Parks, and a large variety of individualized items needed for children impacted by special needs in the community. OLC has provided funding for a child to attend a special needs camp, provided resources to secure a residences for two special needs families in our area, provided over 46 trainings to the community to better understand and assist those with special needs, provided personalized advocacy for numerous families, provided online and in person support for over 1000 families, enlisted and supported 31 autism friendly business locations, and last but not least provided a safe sensory friendly playground for 211 special needs families in the North Central Iowa community and beyond. All of these things have been provided through the hard work, love, and dedication of the OLC volunteer board, families and community volunteers at no charge to our special needs families.

While Our Loving Children will be dissolved, the legacy of the hard work provided by all of our loving volunteers and supporters will live on through the caring community we’ve helped to create.
OLC has touched each of us in a unique way and will remain in all of our hearts. Thank you so much for your support in this loving endeavor.

With thanks and love,   Our Loving Children Board of Directors

Our Loving Children Walking for Autism Speaks in Kansas City

From Lacey, Co-President of Our Loving Children...Today I walk for Jack. The challenges - the rewards of autism. The little milestones that scream big progress. I join a community of families who start as strangers yet instantaneously bond due to this unique connection. I walk thinking of the therapists and teachers who have become like family. Each one has walked a portion of this road with us and hold a special place in my heart as they work tirelessly to help Jack reach goals that seem so distant. I walk being grateful for Our Loving Children for being a continued support network and unbreakable friendship. Autism has taught me unspeakable patience and unconditional love. It has given me strength to advocate without fear. But mostly, the art of functioning on minimal sleep and knowing that God's mercies are sometimes disguised.

KIMT reports on FDA ruling on Autism!!

Great news on KIMT! FDA ruling to help crack down on those trying to give substandard care for families desperate for help. There isn't a quick cure but there are ways to help. The only therapy that is scientifically proven to be effective at addressing the needs of an individual with autism spectrum disorder continues to be ABA directed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Visit the Board Analyst Certification Board (BACB) at http://www.bacb.com/ to see if there is a quality provider near you!

KIMT News 3- The Food and Drug Administration says they are cracking down on those who say they have a quick cure for Autism.

The disorder now impacts 1 in every 68 children in the U.S. and that number could be growing. Autism is also one of the fastest growing serious developmental disability. We talked to an expert in this field who told us more about the condition. “At this time, unfortunately we do not have a cure. There is no cure for Autism, however there are a number of things that can help, that can help with symptoms,” Therapist and Physiologist Sharon Davern said.

Davern also told us that you need to talk to your doctors before doing any treatments.

A big THANK YOU to our Mason City Walmart for supporting Our Loving Children and for awarding Our Loving Children with a $1500.00 check! This will go a long way in helping us to fulfill our mission of providing advocacy, education, resources, and support to those impacted by autism or special needs!  THANK YOU WALMART!!!
