Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program offered to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Centennial Elementary.  The goals of this program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and promote academic excellence.  It is also fun!

With the help of classroom teachers, students are organized into teams of five or six.
They decide which books each team member will read from a list of sixteen books to prepare themselves to answer questions based on the details within the story.  Students may check out one Battle of the Books title at a time from the Centennial Library. During the month of February, the students will practice each week during their library time.  An elimination competition the first week of March will result in the the top teams that will go on to the Championship held on March 14th.  Parents are welcome to attend the Championship match.  The 3rd grade teams start at 1:30 p.m. and the 4th and 5th grade teams begin at 2:15 p.m.
