Introduction of ODRC

In 1995, Prof. Cheng established the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory at National Yang-Ming University. The purpose of the laboratory was to educating and training orthopaedic biomechanics expertise, and to improve the quality of research and development in Taiwan. We will hold a 20th Anniversary Celebration party on Jan 28, 2016!

With the financial support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, the Joint Prosthesis Technology Research Center was founded in 2004 which base on the foundation of Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory. Its major goal is to construct a technical platform for the research and development of joint prostheses.

In 2009, JPTRC was renamed to Orthopaedic Device Research Center, because our service includes the development of trauma and spinal devices. With the financial support from the Southern Taiwan Science Park, we established the Kaohsiung division of ODRC. The division provides design, testing and FDA application services for the industries. There are 4 Ph.D., 2 Master researchers, 2 engineers, 5 clinical surgeons, and 9 graduate students in our center.

Until now, we have published over 110 SCI papers, 31 patents and got one US FDA 510(k) clearance. We also have established three technique platforms include “R&D”, “Innovative Technology” and “Retrieval Analysis and Testing” platform. Asian specific disease and specific function designs has become the present main development direction for orthopaedic products development. Moreover, we have extended our cooperative to China, Japan, Korea, India, US, UK, Finland and German. The main goal of our destination is provide total solution to surgeons by translating clinical ideas to FDA approved.
