Creating a Slideshow

Adding Photo Slides

  1. Insert a new slide (Insert > New Slide or Ctrl + M)
  2. If the Slide layout sidebar is not visible, go to Format > Slide Layout
  3. Click on the Content slide thumbnail, in the Slide Layout sidebar
  4. Click on the Insert Picture icon on the new slide
  5. Locate your picture and click 'Insert'
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each picture.


Narrating Your Slideshow

  1. Go to the slide on which you would like to begin your narration
  2. Go to Slideshow > Record Narration..
  3. Set microphone level
    1. Click 'Set Microphone Level'
    2. Drag the slider all the way to the right
    3. Test the microphone by speaking the test text.
      • If the microphone is working properly, the green bar will pulse as you speak.
      • If the green bar does not appear as you speak:
        1. Make sure the microphone is plugged into the correct port.
        2. Check the computer's volume control to see if the microphone is muted.
        3. Check that the correct microphone is selected as your recording device (Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Audio [tab])  
    4. When the microphone is working, click 'OK'
  4. Set microphone quality
    1. Click 'Change Quality'
    2. From the "Name:" dropdown, select "CD Quality"
    3. Click 'OK'
  5. When you are ready to begin recording, click 'OK'.
  • If you selected a different slide to begin the recording on, the Record Narration dialog box appears. Do one of the following:
    • To start the narration on the first slide in the presentation, click 'First Slide'.
    • To start the narration on the currently selected slide, click 'Current Slide'.
  1. Speak the portion of your narration for the slide that is showing, then click once to advance to the next slide.  Continue to do this until you reach the end of the show.
    • To pause and resume the narration, right-click the slide, and click Pause Narration or Resume Narration.
  2. Click 'Save' to save your slideshow timings.

Re-record the narration for a single slide:

  1. Delete the sound icon* on that slide (right-click > delete)
  2. Go to Slideshow > Record Narration...
  3. When you are ready to begin recording, click 'OK'.
  4. When the Record Narration dialog box appears, click 'Current Slide'.
  5. Speak your narration for that slide.
  6. Press the Esc key


Adding Music

  1. Go to the slide on which you want to start the music.
  2. Go to Insert > Movies and Sounds > Sound from File
  3. Select your music file and then click 'Insert'
  4. Click 'Automatically' so that the music will start when that slide appears.
  5. To play the music across multiple slides, right-click on the sound icon* Icon image and select Custom Animation.
  6. In the Custom Animation sidebar, click the arrow on the selected item in the Custom Animation list and select Effect Options.
  7. On the Effect tab, under Stop Playing, select After, and then set the total number of slides during which the file should play.

*To hide the sound icon during a slideshow, right-click on it, selection Edit Sound Object, and check "Hide sound icon during slideshow".  The sound icons for the narration will automatically be hidden.



Adding Slide Transitions

  1. Go to Slide Show > Slide Transition
  2. From the Slide Transition sidebar, select the transition you would like to add to the slide.
  3. DO NOT change the settings under Advance Slide, or you will remove the timings you set with your narration.
