Sarah McConnel

Oregon State University
Sarah McConnel
Sister Scholars Program Coordinator
AmeriCorps Retention Project

Sarah developed a mentoring program and networking opportunities for non-traditional, woman-identified college students, as well as increased Oregon State University's (OSU) outreach and partnership efforts with local middle and high schools.

Sarah worked with students to spearhead "The Confidence Conference" and "Discovering the Scientist Within" events at OSU. These events connected 120 middle school girls to science activities as part of an effort to address the lack of women in STEM careers.

In addition to her work at OSU, Sarah emerged as a leader on the Retention Project team. By sharing resources and best practices, she provided support to other members and inspired a spirit of camaraderie.

Utilizing her master's degree in College Student Services and her professional experience, Sarah was able to support her projects at OSU, as well as mentor other members on the Retention Project team. Sarah's expertise, mentoring program research, and partnership building skills helped to foster and increase the capacity of the entire Retention Project program to better serve students across the state.

"Sarah has been a pleasure to work with this year and I've come to count on her great attitude and the fun energy that she brings to the ORCC team. Sarah has great skills and we're so glad ORCC got to benefit from her expertise this year!" - Signe Bishop, AmeriCorps VISTA & Retention Project Supervisor
