Standard hobby servo motors being used in the prior R/C Protei (_002
, _008a and b)
, like these below, were not strong enough to articulate the entire body of the boat:
Cesar and I have decided to test some DC motors using worm gears, and an additional feature is they do not need current to maintain their position.
I just received this hefty worm gear drive motor
, that has a super nice feature of a built in rotary potentiometer:
Powerful Buehler DC motor type 1.13.022.212.03 operates from 6VDC up to 24VDC. Motor has large brass worm gear attached to shaft which drives a two piece plastic gear assembly. At 6VDC the large black gear rotates at 24RPM. The larger black gear has a slot in it that is detected by an optical detector. Sorry, we have no info on hookup but it should be simple since it is only three leads for the optical detector. To reverse direction just reverse polarity of voltage to the two motor leads. Size of motor 2.4"L x 1.24"Dia. Size of overall assembly about 5.5" x 2.9" x 1.95"Thick. Removed from equipment -good condition.
I am going to size it, and spec it for amperage draw, then get a motor driver or h bridge that can handle it, then see if it suits our needs.
