20120723 Protei_010 Hull design day 1

Today we started drafting the hull design.
The first observation was that Protei_006 -thas has the same level of complexity than Protei_010- had way too many holes / weak points.

Our first intuition was "Can we get rid of all these weak points and make Protei and really simple and robust platform?"

So, we drafted the first hull ...

It was bit too bulky, so we drafted a second more narrow hull...

But this time that was a bit too narrow for inserting the motor block and do the maintenance.

So we drafted version 3 and 4, with 80cm length and 16cm wide, 3 segments at the front, and 2 at the back. A long "nose" for the powerful jib for easy manoeuvres.

The idea is to make a simple, robust and performing hull that will be convenient to manufacture, but also that will be easy to upgrade and maintain - many constraints.
With Gabriella, we are working very well and as the design of the hull progresses, similar progress is made on the choice of the internal electronic components :

Here a great step motor on a worm gear on the eMotimo [http://emotimo.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16&Itemi... : a very precise self-locking system for Protei hull and winch actuation :) We might use that kind of setup :)
