READING: Many small groups were assessed this week. Students are moving quickly through their units. We also got our progress monitoring back this week. Almost ALL students made big gains in recognizing letters and sounds, and blending words smoothly. Good Job First Grade Readers!
MATH: This week we wrote number sentences for numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9. We used red and yellow colored beans and linker cubes to model our work. Please see
Friday Folders for student work.
WRITING: We finished Unit 6 in Spelling this week, practicing letters /Th/. We also wrote a book titled, I Like Me!. We wrote sentences about what we like to do, our families and ourselves. We continue to work on sentences practicing sentence rules for first grade.
SPELLING We learned the letter combination /th/ this week. We also practiced the tricky (sight) word the. We continue to practice writing letters correctly in three lines, and writing complete sentences.
Other things going on....
RESPECT – Character Theme for October Student of the Month
This month we will be focusing on “Respect.” We have learned that respect is: treating others the way you want to be treated, and Being kind to friends in class. We will continue to talk about this all week.
We will be having a Halloween Party on Thursday, October 31 at 2:00. Students may bring costumes to dress up if they like. More info coming soon.....
Thank you to all families who contributed to the PTSA Fundraiser. Funds raised
from this will support classroom supplies, field trips, school assemblies and other things for our school. Thank you PTSA!
Thank you to families that sent snacks to school this week. We enjoy our snack break each afternoon before our elective time.
We have PE on Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure students have appropriate shoes on those days.
Have a great weekend! Smilingly :) Mr. Rogers
