Donuts for Guests like Dads was Friday, June 14th, in the Elementary Dining Hall.

Guests like dads came and had school breakfast with their children, starting at 7:15. This event was a great way to kick off the Father's day weekend! Over 50 dads showed up for Biscuits & Gravy, Cinnamon Rolls, Pears, Strawberry Blueberry cups, Milk & Coffee.

Thank you for coming and having breakfast with your children! Thank you for the hard work and dedication you put in to support your families! We hope you had a great Father's day weekend!



“Try Day Friday”

“Try Day Friday”, May 31st, is featuring Asparagus!


Asparagus was a former member of the lily family but now has its own plant family (the Asparagaceae Family).

There are nearly 100 phytonutrients in asparagus. Asparagus also has many of the top vitamins & minerals associated with good health.

Muffins for Guests like Moms

Muffins for Guests like Moms was on Monday, May 13th. Guests like moms were invited to come and have breakfast with their children on Monday, May 13th.

Breakfast ran from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. in the Onalaska Elementary Dining Hall. The kitchen staff offered three choices; Strawberry Parfait, Cereal or a Breakfast Bar. All Choices came with a Blueberry Muffin, Fruit, Milk and Coffee. 148 students and over 40 guests attended.


Screen-Free Week is April 29th-May 5th. This year it correlates with the 100th anniversary of Children's Book Week. What a great time to put down a device and pick up a book. There are a lot of resources for Screen-Free Week at screen-free week Here's a What will you do? Writing page.

Touch & Go System

April 4th, 2019


Dear Parents and Staff,


We are excited to be bringing back the Touch & Go system, to ring up school meals. The Touch & Go system was not an option when we switched to SkyWard for Food Service in 2009. Prior to 2009 we used this system instead of PIN numbers to serve school meals. The Touch & Go system has many advantages such as: the user is in complete control of their own identity (no borrowed pin numbers, no entries on wrong accounts), faster meal lines, and no forgotten pin numbers. When we had this system prior to 2009 the meal lines were much faster and we had less errors on accounts.


We will be using Bio Reader from School Technology. Bio Reader takes measurements from the finger and converts the measurements to a numeric code. The code is used to bring up the child’s meal account. The product does not store fingerprints and there is no way to recreate a fingerprint from the code that is created. You and/or your child may decide to opt out of the Touch & Go system. In that case your child will tell the cashier their name and the cashier will type in their name to access their account. It will take more time and that is why we encourage the use of the Touch & Go system.

Middle School Breakfast gets an remodel.

Middle School Breakfast gets an remodel. Thanks to a grant from Washington State through OSPI our middle school received a breakfast cart. The school breakfast cart provides more room for healthy school breakfast items. There's something for everyone. Today's choices were: Breakfast Sandwiches, Sausage wrapped with a Pancake, French Toast Sticks, BeneFit Bars, or Mix & Match (take 2): Cereal, Cereal Bars, Sunflower Seeds, String Cheese & Granola. All breakfast entrees are whole grain and come with 2 Fruit and a Milk. Today's Fruit Choices were: Gala Apples, Red Pears, Oranges, Mandarin Oranges, Craisins & Applesauce. Weekly items are home made: Biscuits & Gravy, Breakfast Burritos & Strawberry Parfaits.

Mark your calendar for National School Breakfast Week—March 4-8, 2019! The #NSBW19 theme is “Start Your Engines With School Breakfast,” which is designed to show parents, students, and school officials the benefits of fueling up for the day with a healthy school breakfast.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. However, US Department of Agriculture data show that more and more students are starting their day with a nutritious breakfast in their school cafeterias. The School Breakfast Program currently serves more than 14 million students every day. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in math.
  • Score higher on standardized tests.
  • Have better concentration, memory and alertness.
  • Have improved attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.

A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is one way to ensure students are getting the best education possible. National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the healthy, great tasting, and appealing choices we offer. School nutrition professionals in Onalaska School District prepare breakfast and lunches every day that meet federal nutrition standards - limiting fat, calories and sodium - while encouraging students to choose from the fruits, vegetables and whole grains offered with school meals.

National School Breakfast Week was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program, a federally assisted meal program operating in public and non-profit private schools and residential child care institutions since 1975.

Dear Staff & Students,


Starting next week we will be replacing juice with whole fruit. We are looking at improving health by providing whole fruit instead of juice. Juice is robbed of its skin, pulp, fiber and a broad range of nutrients.


The skin of the fruit is important because it contains carotenoids & flavonoids which help lower our risk of cancer and help protect us from ultraviolet light. Fruit pulp contains flavonoids that work with the vitamins to boost their health benefits. And the fiber in fruit & other foods helps reduce: blood cholesterol, heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes.


Please take advantage of the great variety of fruits & vegetables provided with school meals. Fruits and vegetables are a great way to accumulate health. We can take simple steps daily to accumulate/improve our health for today, tomorrow and our future.


Soy Milk will still be available at every meal for those with dairy allergies.
