Welcome!

This is the page of ONU-SOLVE, the Ohio Northern University problem group.

The group objectives:
  • Become proficient in solving challenging original problems;
  • Build your resume by having your name (as an individual, or through the membership in ONU-SOLVE) publicly listed among those providing correct solutions by a mainstream college mathematics journal such as American Mathematical Monthly, Fibonacci Quarterly, College Mathematics Journal, Mathematics Magazine, and others: in this way, ONU-SOLVE becomes a co-curricular activity with a natural performance assessment.
  • Learn how to write a complete, publishable, solution to a mathematical problem;
  • Propose problems to those journals and get published as a problem author;
  • Participate in the Putnam Competition.
Recent activity:
  • B-1074 (recognized in the August 2011 Problem Section of the Fibonacci Quarterly, which features the solution provided by ONU-Solve)
  • B-1078 (recognized in the November 2011 Problem Section of the Fibonacci Quarterly)
  • Problems 1872 and 1873 - Mathematics Magazine, Vol. 84, No. 3, June 2011 - recognized in the June 2012 issue.
  • Problems 961 and 965 (The College Mathematics Journal 43, No. 5,  November 2012, 410-419) ) - Tommy Steinberger recognized among those submitting correct solutions.
  • Problems B-1101 and  B-1102 (recognized in the February 2013 Issue of the Fibonacci Quarterly).
  • Problem B-1103 (recognized in the February 2013 Issue of the Fibonacci Quarterly, which features the solution provided by ONU-Solve)
  • Problem 11596 – American Mathematical Monthly – recognized in May 2013 issue.
