Throughout the years Interfraternity Council at Ohio Northern University has not adopted a specific philanthropy. This year we have chosen to adopt Prostate Cancer Research as our Philanthropy. In turn, one of the most well known prostate cancer philanthropies is an organization called Movember. This organization’s philanthropy is based off of the concept of “No Shave November”, except Movember focuses on growing different types of mustaches. Participants are encouraged to grow out unique mustaches using waxes and other tools. In effect, “Mo Bro’s” raise awareness of prostate cancer and other diseases that affect men, by walking around public with their one of a kind mustaches! In addition, participants are also asked to solicit donations via email and other social media websites by posting frequent photo updates on the progress of their mustache. All participants have a MoSpace as a social media tool to keep track of donations, stay in contact with supporters/team members, as well as mustache rating tools.
At ONU, we look to take a unique approach in comparison to many other schools. In the coming weeks we are seeking the assistance of Panhellenic Council in raising awareness of the cause. This will be accomplished by having various sorority members wear fake mustaches around campus to make a statement and raise awareness. In addition, we also look to occupy tables outside of the dining hall with laptops to aide students by enhancing the ease of donation. The fraternity that accumulates the most donations by December 1st at 12:00PM will win the competition and receive a pizza party courtesy of IFC.
Our goal is to raise a minimum of a $1,500 dollars for prostate cancer, a disease that affects us all whether directly or indirectly. It is our belief that $1,500 is a very attainable amount; it breaks down to each chapter member collecting donations of five dollars. In addition, we look to raise awareness of the cause through our mustaches, and build inter-fraternal relations by a little friendly competition!  It is our sincere hope that you will support us in our quest to grow awesome mustaches and enhance prostate cancer awareness!
