Today we held the first official Omaha Bee Club Equipment Assembly Workshop.
Members had a chance to get hands on practice learning to assemble just about any part of a hive they wanted help with.
Our team of Mentors/Educators were on hand today to give people pointers and advice as well as supervise the goings on. Between the bunch of them, somewhere around 120 years of beekeeping experience was present to help new beekeepers get familiar with hive equipment. You can't get that from a book.
Langstroth hives and horizontal top bar hives were covered in this particular workshop and a good time was had by all, even though we had a few less people than we had expected. This year, being our first year doing this and being done on such short notice, we expected to have a few kinks to work out.
Not to worry though. We learned a bit and are ready to do it again next year by planning ahead, giving members much more notice and learning from what we did today.
