News Flash! OLSH Students Perform Corporal Works of Mercy

Eighth grade students with OLSH pastor, Fr. Duong, after the funeral Mass for Bishop Flores.

On Wednesday, September 17, people from all over came to honor and celebrate the life of the late Bishop Flores at St. Therese Church in San Diego. Bishop Cirilo Flores passed away on September 6, 2014 and although he only had become bishop in 2013, he quickly became a strong proponent of helping Catholic education become accessible to all. Three of our eighth graders, were chaperoned by one of our retired Math/Science teacher, Mrs. Susanne Alton, who had known Bishop Flores when he was the pastor of St. Norbert's in Orange County. Our pastor, Fr. Duong Nguyen, is shown here with the students after the funeral Mass. At OLSH, students learn about the Seven Corporal Works of Mercy and here we were able to live out our faith by attending the funeral Mass.

Dear Parents, Parishioners, and Community Friends:

I am honored to be appointed as the new Principal at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than fourteen years; first earning a B.A. in Social Ecology, then a M.A. in Educational Leadership, and finally, an Administrative Services Credential. I plan to continue the legacy of OLSH, “Educate the whole person - body, mind, and spirit - within the living experience of the family, the Catholic Church, and society.”

Today, I ask you for two things on behalf of the school:

1. Consider Catholic Education for the children in your life. The best investment in our children is an education centered on challenging academics and the growth of the mind, body, and spirit. Register at our school office Monday through Friday 9-4pm and school begins September 2, 2014.

2. Promote our school. Every child deserves the opportunity to receive a Catholic education no matter what socio-economic status their family has. Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about us, invite them to visit our school, and encourage them to explore what we offer.

Thank you,

Christina Alton

Muchas gracias,

Christina Alton
