Happy May!  We are in the last half in  the third trimester of the school year.  Progress reports went home on May 10th.   Everyone in 5B is working hard and doing their best.   Thanks for all your patience, support and encouragement.  We are happily learning new interesting concepts and exploring new ideas as we enjoy our year together and prepare for middle school.

Please remember that we are the nut free room in grade 5B.  We will not be sharing any food.
In Reading, we are enjoying reading some of my favorite novels for fifth graders.  We have read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery , Kneeknock Rise by Natalie Babbitt and A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park.  Lots of fun! We celebrate Reading Week during the week of May 29th.

In math, we are studying Geometry.   Homework is usually a math assignment nightly except on Fridays. Friday is Grand Finale Day. Friday is usually our end of the week "quiz" day.    We usually have a religion, reading, spelling quiz/ test on Friday. The students will know way ahead of time and be well prepared for any major tests.   Any projects will be assigned ahead of time, too.  If your child misses a homework assignment, the spelling words can be used to write sentences or stories as an alternative assignment.

The students are very excited to be using their Chromebooks in class.  They are working on Social Studies research projects about famous people, places and battles of the Revolutionary War. They are enjoying working in small groups, researching topics of interest and presenting their findings to their classmates. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot of new information on our Field Trip to Sturbridge Village on May 10th.  Lots of fun!    Lots of good ideas and creativity!

Enjoying Grade Five!   Mrs. Beaulieu
