2017 Contest Rules

It is time for the annual Ides of March Poetry Contest, open exclusively to OPA members.

THE FUN PART

A $25 cash prize will be for the winning poem. The winning poem and the two honorable mentions will be printed in our annual OPA journal Common Threads. The winner will be invited to present a reading at the OPA picnic in July.

THE NITTY GRITTY

  • Submit up to three poems, all submitted together—any style, any subject, any form, but each no longer than one page.
  • No previously published work.
  • Only one three-poem entry per person.
  • Submitted poems will not be returned.
  • Traditional mailing instructions: Include one copy of each poem, titled, but no poet’s name, along with a cover sheet listing poet’s name, address, e-mail address (or telephone number with area code), and titles of poems. Mail the packet, with the $5 entry fee (check payable to Ohio Poetry Association), to:

  • Electronic submissions:
    Format poems in 12 pt. Times New Roman.
    Send as a Word or PDF file via email to: contests@ohiopoetryassn.org. Put “Ides of March” in the subject line.
