The mission of S.M.A.R.T. is to promote safer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives at and outside work. To that end, we partner with industry to conduct scientific research examining the role that individual and organizational factors play in employee health and performance. Topics of interest include organizational leadership and climate, safety performance and outcomes, employee training and development, work engagement and motivation, work stress, work-family conflict, and workplace aggression. Some of our research has been funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

S.M.A.R.T. has been a part of a larger collaborative effort to improve employee health and well-being, which includes faculty, professionals, and students from different fields (e.g., psychology, management, ergonomics, public health and epidemiology) and from different institutions (Old Dominion University, Colorado State University, University of Colorado-Denver, University of South Australia, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, The Center for Construction Research and Training).
