Course Description

Prerequisite: Pre-Algebra

This course is a prerequisite to geometry. The students will learn to use and understand variables through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They will learn to write and solve linear sentences and inequalities, to graph on a coordinate plane, and to work with exponents, radicals, quadratic equations, polynomials, factors, and more.

Class Text

  • Algebra 1, Houghton Mifflin, Harcourt (HMH), 2015

All textbooks MUST be covered (Book Socks are not allowed)

Materials Needed

Grading

  • Major Grades - 60%

    • Tests, Quizzes, and Major Assignments

  • Minor Grades - 40%

    • Pre-tests, Practice tests, and Daily Assignments

Expectations for this class

  • Believe in yourselves and be willing to do your best. (you know more than you realize)

  • Actively participate in class, such as answering questions and taking notes.

  • Be willing to make mistakes, many times the best way to learn is by trial and error.

    • Correct mistakes by the accepted guidelines.

  • Turn in all assignments on time. Late assignments grades are deducted as follows:

    • 1 day - 10%

    • 2 days - 20%

    • 3 days - 30%

    • 4+ days - late work may not be accepted for credit.

(If there are extenuating circumstances, I will address that on a case by case basis - students will need to meet with me to discuss the situation)

  • Assignments which are missing will be marked with “/” and assignments not turned in after 4 days will be marked as “0”. If you look on Jupiter and the assignment has a “0” it is past the deadline to be accepted as late. Also, assignments marked “abs” means the student was absent on the due date and needs to be made up ASAP. Please see the student handbook for more information on making up absent work.

  • Complete Khan Academy assignments in a timely manner.
