OCD TEXAS is a nonprofit support and advocacy organization for people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related disorders. We are dedicated to bringing together OCD sufferers, their families and friends, researchers and treating professionals across Texas, in order to:
  • educate the public and professionals about OCD and related disorders in order to raise awareness and improve the quality of treatment provided;
  • improve access to resources for those with OCD and their families so that individuals afflicted with OCD and related disorders can better identify, seek, and gain access to appropriate support and affordable treatment;
  • support research toward better understanding of and more effective treatments for OCD and related disorders;
  • advocate and lobby for the OCD community.

Since our kickoff conference in October 2010, we've held quarterly conferences in Dallas/Fort Worth (February), Houston (May), and Austin/San Antonio (October) as well a meeting at the annual conference of the International OCD Foundation (July). This year, however, we've decided to focus on our annual fall conference, which will be held in Houston.

In October each year, in conjunction with International OCD Awareness Week, in addition to our conference, we sponsor and support special awareness-raising events.

In the weeks leading up to OCD Awareness Week 2012, for example, we created the onsite and online OCD Film Festival. We looked at how OCD is portrayed in film; we selected feature films, short films, and animated films, with reviews and discussion by members of the OCD community. By popular demand, we've left the film festival site active, so you can still view the films and join in the important conversation about how we can begin to wash away the myths and stereotypes associated with this serious but treatable disorder. Leading up to OCD Awareness Week 2013, we created the online OCD Book Festival to raise awareness about OCD and related disorders – around the world!

We answer hundreds of phone calls and emails throughout the year from people seeking information about OCD resources in Texas. We also support local support groups currently meeting anywhere in Texas.

In 2012 we awarded our first Research and Professional Development Awards to support research on OCD as well as professional development training for clinicians currently practicing in Texas to become OCD treatment experts.

OCD TEXAS is a local affiliate of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). We need your help! Please consider supporting our mission of compassion and hope by volunteering to help with conferences, member support, or outreach, or by becoming a member, or by making a tax-deductible donation. Thank you!
