The John McCrae Jazz Orchestra was awarded a Gold Standard at this year's Capital Region Music Festival.  This is the second year in a row that the ensemble earned Gold.  They have clearly built on their previous successes!

The Elektric Band and Quarrel of the Foes also both performed strongly.  The Elektric Band earned a Silver Standard, while Quarrel of the Foes earned a Bronze Standard.  The Elektric Band joins the Concert Band and Jazz Orchestra as ensembles eligible to compete at Musicfest Nationals.

The Jazz Orchestra Opened its set with  a contemporary swing chart by Dean McNeill named The Fourth Dimension.  This performance featured solos by Ashley Kurkjian on Alto Sax, Emily Burda on Trombone, Nick Crawford on Tenor Sax, and Spencer Parent on drums.  The band followed up this piece with a great performance of Andrew Jones' beautiful ballad Empathy.  The ballad featured Emily Burda on the lead, with a solo from Ashley Kurkjian thrown in for good measure!  Completing the set, the band finished with an exciting funk tune, Bright Lights by Bob Mintzer.  The performance featured solos by Nick Crawford, Emily Burda and Alex Kurkjian on Piano.  Congratulations on your golden performance!
