Welcome to the Ormiston Bushfield Academy’s (OBA) Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Here at OBA we embrace the ethos of the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) organisation; so, every young person of every background can do their DofE and succeed, regardless of any barriers.
The OBA DofE exists to promote increased opportunities for high quality and varied educational experiences that foster life changing skills, like independence, determination and team work. We want young people who are willing to commit to the award scheme, to be given the opportunity to experience life and learning beyond the classroom. We want to expand participants’ horizons and open further opportunities to experience; adventure, culture, heritage and importantly the natural world, beyond those of the regular growing up experiences. We ensure that young people have access to these life changing educational experiences by providing support on the ground, training and sharing of best practice and then promoting those benefits to wider audiences.
The DofE scheme is a charity that aims to create a world where young people can reach their full potential whatever their circumstances. Their ethos is to enable those taking part to build confidence and develop self-esteem. The awards require persistence, commitment and have a lasting impact on the attitudes and outlook of all young people who undertaken their DofE. The participants are aged between 14 and 24 and the DofE have been issuing awards in the UK since 1956, in fact 2,352,416 of them!
