Whitford Beach

Whitford beach is a hidden treasure, with a number of similarities to Okura.  One of which is that this is a nesting ground for rare wading birds, and therefore, requires special attention when riding.

Trails and Terrain

Whitford beach should only be ridden below the high tide mark, so as to ensure you don't disturb nesting birds.  Ride out using the trail marked with orange poles.  You can then ride the mudflats to your hearts content.  Although these are 'mudflats', the footing is generally firm and flat.

"Horses are only allowed to cross the reserve in a straight line to the right of the orange marker posts to ride on the mudflats beyond and off the reserve. Please do not ride on the reserves apart from the path." - DOC

Map and Directions

Whitford beach is located at the end of Clifton Rd, Whitford. A bridlepath gives you a loop around Potts\Clifton Rds if you want to extend your ride.  There is also another bridlepath in planning that will allow riding along the shoreline (see map below for bridlepath).
