Travel to/From JSC

School groups are required to provide their own transportation to and from the Competition venue at the NASA Johnson Space Center.

School groups that arrive via school district vehicles or private vehicles must have a chaperone or parent to drive the students to and from the Competition.  This is required because the intensity and scope of the Competition are such that the students are physically exhausted by the Sunday evening Competition adjournment (may have been without sleep for much of the weekend) and are unable to drive responsibly.

For Texas students attending from a distance of 200 miles or more from the Johnson Space Center, the Competition has a small fund provided by the State of Texas to help cover transportation expenses.  Those interested in that benefit should contact Competition Organizer, Norman Chaffee at or 713-944-2461.

A Couple of Suggestions
  • The buses will be nearly full so pack as efficiently as possible.
  • No coolers on the bus.
  • We will have some plug-ins available for mobile phone charging.
  • A blanket and pillow will help you to be a lot more comfortable.
  • The bus temperature may be either hot or cold or both. Dress in layers.
  • Be a traveler, not a tourist.
Bus Assignments
Please confirm assignments on Wednesday, March 13, as they may change. If we all fit this eliminates a stop in Sioux City by two buses. I am yet to confirm numbers so this may all change.

Every student must have a Medical and Permission Form on file in order to participate once in Houston. The forms can be found below.

I have listed below the schools and initials of the students for whom I do not yet have the forms. I suspect many of you planned from the beginning to bring the forms with you. NO PROBLEM, this is just a reminder. I would feel pretty badly if you forgot and I hadn't reminded you. Please bring them with you tomorrow and hand them to Mary Feddersen.
