WEEKLY READERS REsPONSE

Every week, each student will be responsible for reading for twenty minutes for four days. This means that each student will be reading a minimum of eighty minutes a week. Students may read any book of their choice for the weekly reading log, as long as it is grade appropriate, a chapter book, and on their independent reading level. As the year progresses, the reading responsibility each week will increase to five nights per week, Ms. Schneider will make an announcement when the change is occurring!

Make sure to log the hours (start and finish) and the book title on the Reader's Response form, also remember to write in the date that you read! Your reading logs are a place to record the reading that you do outside of class! In addition to the reading log, each week you will also complete a reader response to show me that you are thinking carefully about your reading! Each written response MUST INCLUDE page numbers and text evidence to receive full credit!

If you would like to see a sample of what a completed Readers Response looks like. There is a link to a document at the bottom of this page, with a sample! Also, there is a blank readers response sheet that you may download at home if your son or daughter loses their homework.

Reader's Response homework will be given out in class on Monday and due the following Monday.

HOMEWORK:

  • Week of 3/16: There will be NO NEW READERS RESPONSES while school is closed

  • Week of 3/9: Read 4 nights this week & complete the readers response on CONNECTIONS (don't forget page numbers!).
    • Due: MONDAY 3/16
    • Question: Have you made any connections (text to text, text to self, text to world, text to media) in your book to an event that happened or to a character in your book? Pick a connection that you made and explain how and why you made your connection. Use specific evidence to explain your answer. Don’t forget page numbers!
    • The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe BOTH packets due Friday 3/13
  • Week of 3/2: No new readers response
    • The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe BOTH packets due Friday 3/13
  • Week of 2/24: No new readers response
    • INDEPENDENT BOOK PROJECT #2 due Monday 3/2!
    • Remember we are now in the second trimester which means NO MORE GRAPHIC NOVELS and easy reads! We are growing as readers and need to start challenging ourselves with grade level appropriate texts. Therefore, students need to choose chapter books for homework/classwork. This was discussed in class with students.
