Welcome to this exploration into teaching and learning.
I hope to document my learning and progress towards our school mission: "To enable a child to be a thinking, caring, productive person using high academic standards in a positive environment."

That mission guides our technology plan as well: "Students today enjoy the connectedness of social networking; it is part of their very being. Our goal is to bring instruction into that cloud as an educational network to teach the content required in ways that inspire online responsibility and ethics in this new, very connected world so that students develop the collaborative, participatory, and communicative skills required in their futures...Considering our mission statement and given that the purpose of education is to prepare students to be productive and caring adults, we believe that technology is a necessary tool for learning that expands our instructional repertoire and is the vehicle that maximizes the capacity of all teachers and learners. It is the vision of Nespelem School District that students be engaged in a stimulating academic environment and an engaging, highly relevant, rigorous curriculum — student-centered and focused inquiry-based learning."

Purpose and Reflection

What is the purpose of this portfolio?

In order to meet the mission, I hope to create projects that include the STAR protocol of Skills/Knowledge to teach and learn, Thinking strategies to solve problems, Application activities to model real content and process, and Relationship building to advance the engagement of students in their learning. In order to be applicable to the world students live in and enter, I also hope to advance our school's technology goals by including technology in projects as powerful learning experiences. Therefore, my STAR protocol is START: Skills Thinking Application Relationships Technology.

As I complete projects, I will reflect on their significance towards meeting these goals.
