Lionesses are female lions. A group of lions is called a pride and they usually consist of more females than males. They are carnivores and live an average of 10-14 years. They can also weigh anywhere between 265 - 420 lbs. and can grow to be the length of 4.5 - 6.5 feet. ~

Lions have a wide variety of prey, from wildebeest, impalas (the animal not the car), zebras, giraffes, buffalo and wild hogs to sometimes rhinos and hippos. They can also feed on smaller animals like hares, birds, and reptiles. Lions are known to attack elephants when food is in short supply.

A group of cubs are called a litter and there can be around 3 to 4 cubs in each. Young cubs are vulnerable to predators such as hyenas, leopards and black-backed jackals. The cubs begin hunting at 11 months, but remain with their mother for at least two years.

Lions are magnificent animals, and I hope you learned something about them from reading this article that you didn’t know before you read it.
