NCSD SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

The Northville Central School District is committed to providing a quality education for all students. The Special Education De-partment offers disabled students a continuum of services that supports access to the General Education Curriculum in accor-dance with their own individual abilities. Programs are designed to meet individual student needs so they may receive the highest quality of services within the General Education setting, among age appropriate peers to the greatest degree possible. This is achieved through a collaborative, student-centered Committee on Special Education focused on the individual child’s needs.

Goals of the Special Education Department
  • To develop and maintain a positive interactive rapport with parents and members of the school community through the Response to Intervention (RTI), School-Based Intervention Team (S-BIT), Academic Intervention Supports (AIS) and Special Education process.
  • To provide a continuum of services addressing academic, social, emotional, physical and management needs in order for all students to achieve their highest potential.
  • To provide students with the opportunity of an inclusive model of instruction (Integrated Co-Teaching) within the general education setting enabling all students to achieve their highest potential.
  • To teach the Common Core curriculum and anticipate a high level of student achievement across all programs while providing challenging educational learning opportunities.
  • To teach our disabled students quality interpersonal skills and increase their capacity to think critically, solve problems effectively and apply these skills to ‘real life’ situations.
  • To instill the importance of essential skills and competencies for our disabled students to become college and career ready in order to be successful in their postsecondary accomplishments.
