December 21, 2016: North Star Digest Edition VIII:
As this is our eighth edition of the digest, we thought it appropriate to let readers know that older issues of the digest are located on the menu bar to the left. Thank you true-believers!
General School Information:
Have a happy and safe holiday everyone!
This was the 13th year North Star Charter participated in Eagle's Country Christmas! Thank you for helping make North Star an important part of the community!
Sports Complex and Playground Campaign tracker as of 12/13:
· $131,371 raised
· 12% current family participation
A BIG thank you to all who have already given!
I know it can seem daunting to reach the goal of $250,000 and 100% participation, but it is within reach and achievable. For example, if every family that has not donated made a contribution of $236, we would reach our goal!
Please consider a gift that is meaningful for your family. Gifts of ALL sizes are appreciated and add up! Help us make the Phase I vision, expanded playground, outdoor classroom and sport court, a reality.
Wholesome Tummies Café:
These are some of the exciting things you can look forward to, made fresh for you. Each entrée comes with two sides.
That spirit gear is stylish and affordable, and the popcorn is delicious!
A huge thank you for the generous holiday gifts!
High School Information:
Happy holidays high school! Keep up the hard work!
Middle School Information:
Did you know that Star Wars: Rogue One is also a book? Or that there are hundreds of Star Wars books available at your local library?
Holiday break is a great time to read...
On December 14, the 4th graders got to sing in the rotunda at the capitol building. It was so fun to see everyone so dressed up and there was a great turnout of family and friends that came to watch. Before and after singing, with the help of parents, the 4th graders were able to tour the capitol. It was a fun morning!
Basketball season is upon us: come on out and support your Huskies!
North Star Shout-Out:
Asher Reece's FLL robotics team, "The Bird Brains," took the Champion's trophy at the Nampa qualifying tournament on Saturday and is advancing to the state competition 1/28. This will be our third year qualifying for state, but our first time ever winning this honor!
Asher made both mechanical and coding contributions to our robot, as well as active participation in the team project presentation with a drone Bird of Prey, the core values presentation, and the engineering presentation. The team is led by NSCS parents head coach Doug Reece and asst. coach Nadine Reece, and includes former NSCS student Ethan Reece. Other team members represent Eagle Middle School, TVMSC, Cole Valley Christian, Rolling Hills, and home school.
As we prepare for State, we plan to host an open house in January inviting any leaders interested in FLL to come, watch, and ask any questions they would like. In addition to helping the community get involved in a wonderful program, this demonstration of "coopertition" helps us earn more points at State. Please connect us with any leaders who would be interested at NSCS so we can provide communication at the proper time!
