Elementary Information

Recently the 4th graders got to be paleontologists for the day and sort through sediment looking for microfossils.  Each group found at least some sort of fossil - fish scales, teeth, small vertebrae and other small bones, turtle shell, and crocodile skin!  These are real microfossils that were collected by the University of Washington at their field sites in Eastern Montana this summer and are from the late Cretaceous Period (about 70 million years ago).  In July, I attended DIG Field school for a week with UW's Paleontology Department.  Because of my participation in DIG, they sent me a box of the sediment for our students to sort.
We will identify the fossils after Christmas Break and send our results back to UW and they will add our findings to their research database.  These fossils may be small but they are important and the kids really got excited about finding them.

Sports Information:

Huskies,
There is an awesome opportunity for some of our very talented North Star artists. We have installed a very large donor wall in the gymnasium hallway on the secondary side to acknowledge our first tier of donors. In the center of this I want to post a student created mural.
The requirements for the work that students turn in for consideration are as follows:
1. Needs to be sports themed or focus on the Husky mascot himself.
2. Motivational quotes are permitted within the image.
3. All work needs to be original.
4. The work will be painted directly onto the wall using acrylic paint, so they need to incorporate that in their plans.
5. All entries must be submitted on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper to Ms. Francis by 2/2/18 at 3:00 p.m. to be included in voting.

There will be 4 students selected and each will win a $25 gift card, as well as Husky gear of their choice.

Thank you all for your support,
Katie Francis
