Syllabus
 
        Chapter 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 of Alexander & Sadiku.
  • Chapter 9, Sinusoids and Phasors: Sinusoids, phasors, phasor relationship for circuit elements, impedance and admittance, Kirchhoff's laws in the frequency domain, impedance combinations.
  • Chapter 10, Sinusoidal steady-state analysis: Nodal analysis, mesh analysis, superposition theorem, source transformation, Thevenin's theorem, Norton's theorem.
  • Chapter 11, AC power analysis: Instantaneous and average power, maximum average power transfer, effective or RMS value, apparent power and power factor, complex power, conservation of AC power, power factor correction, power measurement.
  • Chapter 12, Three phase circuits: Balanced three phase voltages, balanced Wye-Wye connection, balanced Wye-Delta connection, balanced Delta-Wye connection, power in a balanced system, three-phase power measurement.
  • Chapter 13, Magnetically coupled circuit: Mutual inductance, energy in a coupled circuit, linear transformers, ideal transformers, ideal auto transformers, three phase transformers.

  • Homeworks: Homeworks are assigned to help in quiz, midterm and final preparation. 
  • Midterms: Midterms will be 20 points each. 5-10 points will be allocated to test if you understand the concepts. The rest will be allocated for solving circuit problems.
  • Practice Problems: You must make every effort to solve the practice problems as each chapter/section is completed. Exam questions will be very similar to practice problems.
