Mrs. Julie Swank is beginning her fifth year as part of  Northmont Middle School staff.  She is working on her 25th year at Northmont.

Mrs. Swank is a graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.  She graduated  with a degree in music education, horn emphasis.  She also holds a master of elementary education from the University of Dayton and a Kodály certificate from the Kodály Center at Capital.  She has taught at all levels including college,  high school, junior high, and elementary,  but currently teaches 6 - 8 band at Northmont Middle School School in Clayton, Ohio.  She also teaches summer workshops and levels courses at Capital University as well as guest lecturer at the University of Dayton.  She is the principle horn of the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra and has a private studio of 10 horn students.  Her past students include professional horn players in the Dayton Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.  She plays horn, trumpet, mellophone, E flat horn,  lap dulcimer, violin, cello and piano.  

Julie has served as President and archivist of the Midwest Division of the Organization of American Kodály Educators and has presented sessions at the OAKE National Conference in 1999, 2000, 2003, and 2015.    She has presented sessions at this Divisional Conference in 1997 and 2000, 2011, and 2013. She has presented chapter workshops in many cities including Omaha, Seattle, Dayton, Denver, Toledo, Bluffton, Columbus, Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Detroit, Harrisonburg, Lincoln, Fairfax and Kansas City as well as state NAFME conferences in Colorado, New York and Ohio.
She is a member of NAFME and the International Horn Society and has published a book of two part folk songs entitled, “Folk for Two”.  She is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Lauren, 17 and Katie, 19.
