Scott County Animal Hospital and North Scott Lancers to hold first annual Teddy Bear Toss February 10.

On February 10, the North Scott Lancers basketball court will hopefully be covered with teddy bears.  Scott County Animal Hospital is partnering with the Lancers boys basketball team to hold the first annual Teddy Bear Toss.  The event, coordinated by Dr. Jennifer Ewoldt of Scott County Animal Hospital and Shamus Budde of the Lancer boys basketball team, is similar to those held annually at hockey games in Canada.  Dr. Ewoldt (who is originally from Canada) wanted to hold one here to benefit local charities, and a basketball game seemed fitting since there is no Lancer hockey team.

At the game, all attendees are asked to bring a new or “bearly” used stuffed bear or other animal to toss into the basketball court during halftime when the announcer makes the countdown.  Similar events at hockey games can be seen by typing “teddy bear toss” into your favorite search engine.  All the teddy bears collected at the event will be donated to local fire, police, and ambulance departments, as well as local shelters for children and families.  These teddies can then be given to comfort children in crisis situations.  Ewoldt and Budde are hoping that the Lancer fans will participate in this event to show North Scott area children how much we care.

Staff of Scott County Animal Hospital will be on hand to collect the teddies at the game, and will likely be assisted by some of the Lancer athletes and cheerleaders.  For more information, and for a link to a recent Teddy Bear Toss video in Canada, check out the Scott County Animal Hospital Facebook page or hospital website at www.scottcountyanimalhospital.com.
