My name is Kim Hilby. I grew up on a farm in north eastern Iowa. I attended the University of Iowa with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Journalism. In college, I volunteered at West High School with the Counseling office. I highly enjoyed it and always had the plan of furthering my education after I paid off some of my student loans. I went into the work world working for non-profits always based around helping children of different ages or their families. I decided to go back to graduate school part time while working to get my School Counseling degree about 5 years later. I began working at North Cedar as Family Advocate in 2008. I was housed at the high school in Stanwood but travelled to other buildings and met with students but also went to homes to work with parents and families. In the fall of 2010 I started working at the Middle School as the School Counselor half time and Family Advocate the other half time but the following year I was full time Middle School Counselor. Because of the merging of schools, I moved to the Elementary as School Counselor in the fall of 2015. It is wonderful working with the younger children and seeing them blossom as a student and as a person every day!
