2017 Norman High Coaching Staff

Rocky Martin (1st Season)
Head Coach

Rocky Martin enters his first season as the Head Coach of the Norman Tigers football program.  The Denver Colorado native began his football career playing for the perennial powerhouse, Cherry Creek High School, where he started and helped to win three state championships. Martin was named Colorado’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1996 by both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.  He went on to play Division I for Colorado State University where he was a four-year letter winner as a linebacker and participated in 4 major bowl games. 

     After graduation, Martin began his coaching career at Cherry Creek High School, where he was an assistant coach.  In 2004, he left Colorado to become a Defensive Graduate Assistant at the University of Akron.  While at Akron, he was a part of a team that won their first ever Division I Conference Championship as well as participated in the first bowl game in school's history.                                                                     

     After moving to Oklahoma in 2007, Martin began coaching in Norman at Irving Middle School.  Most recently, Martin served the last 5 years as the Head Football Coach at Putnam City West High School. In 2016, he guided them to their first playoff berth in 20 years. When not involved in football, Martin enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, fishing, and weight training.  Rocky Martin and his wife, Deidra, reside in Norman with their 8-year-old son, Rocky III. 

Michael Collins (1st Season)
Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks 

This will be Coach Collins' first Season as the Norman Tigers Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach. Coach Collins has spent the previous two seasons at Putnam City West High School with Head Coach Rocky Martin in the same capacity. Together, they led PC West to the playoffs for the first time in over 20 years. Previous coaching stops include Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Bishop McGuinness, Deer Creek, OKC Centennial, and Western Heights. Coach Collins received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and his M.Ed from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

B.W. Trenary (25th Season)
Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs  

BW Trenary begins his 25th season at Norman High School and will be coaching the running backs.  He has coached offensive line, wide receivers, tight ends and quarterbacks in his time at NHS.  

In the spring, Coach Trenary coaches the Shot and Discus for the Alcott Middle School Track Team.

Coach Trenary has two children. Zoe (15) is a member of the NHS Varsity Pom squad and has been selected as a 2 Time All American. His son Deuce (12) plays football and throws the shot & discus for the Alcott 7th grade teams. He also has three dogs; Freckles, Chloe and Charlie.


Scott Hennigan (5th Season)                                                                              Life Coach & Defensive Assistant

Scott Hennigan is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He is in his 5th year coaching at Norman High and is the team's Life Coach and defensive assistant.  He supports and inspires our players both on and off the field as helps educate them on how to handle the stress of being a student-athlete while teaching them how to coordinate their time. He has been on staff with Young Life for 20 years and has been the Area Director for South Central Oklahoma serving Norman and Moore since 2002. Scott lives in Norman with his wife, Marce', and their five children, Caleb, Addie, Kayleigh, McKenna & Kai.

Larry Morman (4th Season)
Offensive Line Coach

Larry Morman begins his 4th season coaching the Tigers and his 10th season overall. Coach Morman comes to the Tigers after a brief stint in Oklahoma City by way of South Dakota where he helped coach his alma mater Sioux Falls Washington to state title appearances as an Offensive Line Coach. Prior to Sioux Falls, Morman was an Offensive Coordinator at Chamberlain High School (Chamberlain, SD) and an Offensive Line coach at Edina High School (Edina, MN). Morman is a graduate of Dakota State University (Madison, SD) where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and started 3 years as an Offensive Lineman including one as a Senior captain. Coach Morman teaches Physical Education at Irving Middle School and lives with his wife Alexandra and their dog Huckleberry.

John Baldwin (2nd Season)                                                                                              Wide Receivers Coach

Coach Baldwin returns to the Norman Tigers' coaching staff to coach Wide Receivers after taking two years off of coaching to participate in  ministry training school. Coach Baldwin was previously the Tiger's Defensive Line coach from 2008-2013 and helped the 2016 Tiger Freshman team to an undefeated season and conference championship. Coach Baldwin graduated from and played Wide Receiver for the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers' football team that compiled a record of 29-6 from 2001-2003 and was part of the Rangers' NAIA National Runner-Up team in 2003. He coached Wide Receivers and Linebackers at Alva High School while getting his masters degree from 2004-2005. Alva High School compiled a 19-5 record and a quarterfinal appearance in that span. Coach Baldwin is currently single and enjoys traveling to different cities and NFL stadiums to watch games and has a goal to watch games at all 32 NFL stadiums.

John Martin (2nd Season)
Defensive Line Coach

John Martin is in his 2nd year at Norman High with the Tigers, and his 5th season as a varsity defensive football coach. Coach Martin is a Physical Education teacher at Truman Primary in Norman. He coached his first four years at Putnam City West after graduating from the University of Oklahoma and getting his Master's Degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Coach Martin is from Colorado where he was a three year starter at Cherry Creek High School.  He then went on to play linebacker for the University of Colorado for two seasons, where one year they were the Big XII North Champions. Once his playing days were finished he got into coaching by becoming a student assistant coach at the University of Akron in Ohio.  John is also coaching shot-put and discuss for the Tigers.

Levont'e Douglas (2nd Season)
Corners Coach

Levont’e Douglas is a native of Ardmore Oklahoma where he was a standout athlete/leader in three sports which included football, basketball, and track. Douglas graduated from Ardmore High in 2011 and went on to play football on scholarship at the University of Central Oklahoma. Douglas was a 4 year starter and team elected leader for the Broncho’s at cornerback/safety and was honored by the MIAA with all-conference honors sophomore, Junior, and senior year. Douglas graduated in May 2016 with a bachelor’s of science in Kinesiology- Exercise & Fitness Management (concentration in sports performance & mechanics) with a minor in nutrition. Douglas has a background in Strength & Conditioning because he was an assistant Strength &  Conditioning coach at Edmond Memorial high school in the spring of 2016. Douglas is also a 2nd year Track Coach at Norman High School.

Dylan Cox (2nd Season)
Safeties Coach

Coach Dylan Cox was born and raised in Norman, where he played several sports and fell in love with the game of football. He played football, baseball, and golf at Norman High, and continued playing football throughout college.  A 2011 graduate of Norman High, his senior class took the Tigers to the State Playoffs for the first time in five years.  After high school, Dylan attended the University of Central Oklahoma where he studied kinesiology. His sophomore year at UCO, he walked-on to the football team as a linebacker and played for 4 years while earning a scholarship along the way.

Mark Murphy (1st Season)                                                                                       Defensive Line Coach

Mark Murphy is entering his first year with the Tigers as the Defensive Line coach.  Coach Murphy comes to Norman High after 4 years in Colorado where he was the Strength and Conditioning coach and defensive line coach at Fairview High School in Boulder.  Coach Murphy is originally from Clovis, New Mexico.  He attended college at UCO in Edmond.  He has coached in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and now Oklahoma.  Coach Murphy has been married to his beautiful wife Jennifer for 8 years and has three daughters, Liliah (5), Adaline (4), and Hattie (2), and they are expecting their fourth daughter in October.

Brent Hartsook (1st Season)

Freshmen Head Coach

Brent was born and raised in Norman Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2014 with a degree in social studies education. This will be his fourth year coaching and first at Norman High School. This season Brent is the freshman head coach. Brent married his beautiful wife Courtney in June of 2016.

Chase Frazier (1st Season)

Freshmen Offensive and Defensive Line Coach

This is Coach Frazier's first year coaching. He played high school football in Texas at Grapevine High School. He played football for the University of Oklahoma for three seasons from 2013 to 2015. Coach Frazier graduated in the Spring of 2017 with a B.S. in Sociology from the University of Oklahoma.

Alex Knox  (1st Season)

Freshmen Assistant Coach

Coach Knox is a fellow alum of Norman High School and graduated in 2011 with all district honors playing on the offensive line. After graduation Knox began coaching freshman football in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The next two years Knox coached varsity running backs and the offensive line at Kiefer High School. He also served as a student assistant with the UCO Broncho Football team working with running backs and defensive backs during his three year stint. Knox recently graduated with a communications degree at The University of Central Oklahoma. He will be an assistant coach for the freshmen football team.

Russ Schuchman (24th Season)
Head Athletic Trainer MS/ATC/LAT 

Russ has been the Athletic Trainer for Norman High School since the fall of 1993.  He received his undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with emphasis on Health and Physical Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Ok in 1992.  He then went on to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and received his Master’s Degree in Athletic Training in 1993.  Russ is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and Oklahoma Athletic Trainer’s Association since 1989.  He is certified through the NATABOC as an Athletic Trainer since 1992.  Russ has also served as an Athletic Trainer at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and was selected at the OCA Certified Athletic Trainer for the 2002 OCA All State Games.

Russ is married to Nan Roley Schuchman and they have two sons: Reed (15) and Rylan (11).  In his spare time Russ enjoys traveling to watch his sons play baseball.  He enjoys snow skiing, fly fishing, and fly tying.
